Kadant Johnson Europe Contributed to a Savings of Over 145,000 Tons of Steam in 2020

Photo for blog SMIn many industrial processes the loss of energy is not always visible, and sometimes, can be hard to be calculated. Inside a paper mill, every second lost impacts the production and the profitability of a paper machine. Energy is a major component of the manufacturing cost of paper

Avoiding downtime is extremely important to the papermaking process. Steam and condensate systems that are not working correctly can affect efficiency when paper breaks or grade changes happen.

Throughout 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, Kadant Johnson Europe’s systems and technical team located in Italy, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Finland continued to be able to successfully rebuild steam and condensate systems for its customers.  The overall steam savings across these customers’ sites was over 145,000 tons/year. This reduction is equivalent of over 21,000 ton/year of CO2 emission.

Below you can verify the steam saving and CO2 equivalent reduction per year in each one of the countries these services were performed:

Kadant Johnson’s intimate knowledge of steam and condensate and deep expertise in heat transfer through rotating cylinders makes Kadant Johnson a trusted steam system solution provider. Many of these projects start with a systems engineer that surveys the paper machine onsite. In addition to discovering opportunities for improvements, typically the status of valves, pumps, transmitters, and performance in transitory conditions are also verified. Before a steam and condensate system rebuild project, Kadant Johnson determines an achievable energy saving and production increase goal and works closely with the customer on quality improvements and flexibility of the paper machine.
