Kadant Solutions Introduces New Compact Angle Gauge for Doctor Blade Setup

Auburn, Mass., January 27, 2010 – Kadant Solutions, a division of Kadant Inc. (NYSE:KAI), launched its new AngleSet™ angle gauge tool for doctor blade and scraper installations. The new AngleSet gauge is used to set the proper angle for doctor blades and scrapers for improved doctoring performance and longer blade life. In addition, using the correct blade angle can extend the life of the roll.

The AngleSet gauge tool provides an accurate reading of the blade angle to +/- 0.10 and features a large-format LCD display. The tool’s compact design allows for flexibility in application and is suitable for most doctor applications including creping, coating, drum flaking, and converting.

To determine blade angle, the AngleSet gauge is placed on the roll surface with the foot's center line at the point of blade contact. This establishes a tangential reference. The gauge is then placed on the doctor blade surface to measure the actual doctor blade angle. The blade angle can be read directly from the digital display without changing the orientation of the sensor with respect to the housing.  Where direct reading is not possible, a “hold” button freezes the blade angle reading for easy viewing. Powered by a 3-volt battery mounted within the device, the angle sensor and microprocessor display blade angles from 0 to 180 degrees.
